Jayram Ramesh likely to visit Malkangir and Sukuma
Union Rural Development Minister Jayram Ramesh is likely to visit Malkangiri and Sukuma district on..

MALKANGIRI AND Sukuma districts that the minister will be visiting to review implementation of various anti-poverty programmes in these areas is the same region from where Collector Malkangiri Veenil Krishna and Sukuma Collector Alex Poul Meenon were abducted by Maoists recently.

The Minister will be accompanied by his personal secretary Mr. Veenil Krishna. The Union Rural Development Minister Mr. Jayram Ramesh earlier urged the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take steps to release innocent tribals confined in Odisha jails.

In a letter addressed to the chief minister, the union minster said that he came to know through police officials both at the Center and state level and non-government organizations and others, that many adivasis have been confined in various jails initiating false cases.

It is clear many adivasis are in jails for no reason or fault.  In fact, various organizations working in the state have all along been alleging that the state government had put innocent tribals behind bars branding them as either Maoists or sympathizers of the Maoists. The Maoists had also been demanding the un-conditional release of the tribals confined without their fault, and Jayram Ramesh mentioned this in his letter.
