Jhajjar thermal plant shut down after coal problem
The 1320 MW China Light & Power Jhajjar thermal plant in Haryana has been closed following coal shortage. Coal shortage has hit all the thermal plants in state except Yamuna Nagar thermal which is under long forced shut down.

AS PER the Central Electricity authority report coal stock before Dushehra at Khedar and Jhajjar was just sufficient for 2 days. Even coal stock at Panipat thermal was for less than 5 days.

One unit of Yamuna Nagar thermal was scheduled to be revived by middle of October but now schedule has been revised to middle of next month following some bearing problems. The inspection of damaged turbine rotor has been reportedly completed last week. The same may be shipped to India soon. The unit may come in January next after equipment is received back at Yamuna Nagar  by December end.

Overall in the country there are 29 thermal plants which has less than 4 days coal stock which comes under super critical category. 47 thermal plants including super critical category have less than a week coal stock. In the northern region 8 thermal plants have less than 4 days coal stock 3 each in Haryana and Uttar Pardesh, one each in Delhi and Rajasthan.

600 MW Khedar unit # 1 is under technical break down and one 210 MW unit at Panipat is under annual maintenance.

In Punjab thermal plants are not facing any coal shortage as all plants have coal stock varying from 11 to 15 days. Two units at Ropat thermal plant are under shut down due to technical faults. Unit 6 is down due to condenser leakage and unit 1 was closed after boiler leakage.
