Jharkhand coal mine accident: 9 killed; Rescue operations underway
In a coal mine accident in Jharkhand's Godda district on Thurdays night at least 9 miners have died so far. As per reports, many others are feared trapped in the cave-in.

The accident took place at the Lalmatia Open Cast Coal Mine at Rajmahal area of the Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL). Two persons have met with injuries in the accident and treated in the Area Hospital. One of them has been sent to Durgapur for further treatment.

Coal minister, Piyush Goyal while expressing grief over the incident said that the Eastern Coalfields Ltd would pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the killed miners. The above compensation would be in addition to the amount to be paid under the Workmen's Compensation Act.

Till 2P.M. today, all 10 excavators and dump trucks have been extracted. The coal ministry has ordered an enquiry by DG Mine Safety and CIL technical team.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed grief over the incident.

Prime Minister Modi said that Jharkhand Government and coal minister Piyush Goyal are working to restore normalcy.
