Jim Callahan: A new voice in Americana music
Jim Callahan is one of the artists involved in restoring music in the USA to its roots. His music is based on his experiences in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennesse.
JIM CALLAHAN is one of the recent voices in Country, Rock, and Americana music, whose rise within the music world has not been without struggle.

He was born in Ohio and spent his time playing in venues in the Buckeye State and Kentucky. During that time, he was inspired by various musicians, composers, and groups such as Johnny Cash and Lynard Skynard.

Jim Callahan also made one brief trip to Monterrey, Mexico as a child and was also inspired by some of the groups in that city.
The songs that he recorded in his album such as “Back To Jackson” and “Second Street Avenue” reflect the reality of life seen by this multifaceted artist. I listened to “Back To Jackson” and “Second Street Avenue” and the music is pure in its sentiment as well as originality.

One of my favorite recordings and videos was his version of “The Night Before Christmas”.

It was on an afternoon in December 2010 that I visited his website to hear and see his version of “The Night Before Christmas”. The video and song were out of this world.

The version of this Christmas classic by Jim Callahan was a rockabilly and rock pop version which was exciting and liberating. It was also down to earth compared to previous versions of the classic which were dry.

The video of “The Night Before Christmas” was interesting given the camera tricks. In the video, he is seen sitting down on a couch playing his guitar and singing his version of this classic. Soon Jim Callahan undergoes a transformation from himself to being Santa Claus with beard and hat while playing the guitar. During one part of the video, the hat falls off his head.

My interpretation of that part of the video was that he was trying to give Santa Claus a human face and a down to earth demeanor which lacks during the commercialisation of Christmas. In the end, he is fully dressed as Santa Claus ready to celebrate Christmas. It is a video that deserves a ten out of ten.

Jim Callahan also recorded another song called “Here Comes The Rain” which is dedicated to those, who suffered from the effects of the floods in Tennessee. The song itself was poignant.
The music by Jim Callahan is a mixture of Johnny Cash, Lynard Skynard, and the Grateful Dead. It is a music that is pure and pristine which is superior to the mainstream music that is being promoted in New York and Hollywood.

The reason is that Jim Callahan is a down to earth and no nonsense artist, who has lived the life, walked the walk, and talked the talk. His music is a music that deserves to be heard and appreciated because of what it is: the true heart of music from the United States of America.

I have the feeling that Jim Callahan will be remembered as one of the pioneers of the 21st Century, who restored music in the USA to its rightful place with no artificial flavors.

Roberto, I am humbled by your kind words. I have been debating most of this evening about what I could or should say. I've decided it's this .... When I write a song, I am telling a story or sharing a feeling or idea with only one person at a time. Reaching that persons, soul, their emotions, touching some common ground or common experience with them, that's what it is all about for me. I am so proud to have you as a fan and a friend and to be able to share my music with you. Thank You!
For me, it is a pleasure promoting Jim's music since it is down to earth.
Thanks for writing such a complimetary article about Jim and his music. He truly is a talented, down to earth artist and I am proud to call him my brother!
