A humanitarian gesture by J&K CM Omar Abdullah will allow a young Kashmiri footballer to fulifill his dream of training with football clubs in Europe. Baba was denied security clearance by state CID required to get a passport.
TIMELY INTERVENTION by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has brought smile on the face of a young Kashmiri footballer, who was denied a passport by the state government as his father was found to be involved in terrorism.
A talented footballer, Basharat Bashir Baba was denied the passport after state Intelligence department refused to give him security clearance due to his father's connection with terrorism. Getting a passport in trouble torn Jammu and Kashmir is in itself an exercise of enormous proportions and if you are somehow connected with terror, then chances of getting this document are increasingly grim. Baba was lucky in the sense that CM Omar Abdullah came to know of his predicament and decided to come to his rescue. The young footballer urgently needed the passport to travel to Spain and Brazil for attending special football training sessions with European clubs.
It was revealed that after the intervention of the Abdullah, the CID department cleared the name of the footballer for issuance of a passport. The CM is believed to have said that the young man could not be punished for the crime of other kith and kin. The Chief Minister also made it clear that no person should be barred from getting a passport even if their kith and kin are related to militancy. The Chief Minister advised the concerned authorities to clear the passports of all intending Hajj pilgrims.
