J&K drama continues, Mehbooba tears CBI letter
Pandemonium again prevailed in the House on Wednesday (July 29), after PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti tore a CBI letter tabled in the House by the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone; the letter gives a clean chit to Omar Abdullah in the sex scandal case.
AFTER TWO days of political drama, which saw the People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti wrench the speaker's mike and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah submit his resignation, the no holds barred game of political brinksmanship between the ruling National Conference and the opposition People's Democratic Party continued for a third day in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Srinagar.

Pandemonium again prevailed in the House today after PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti tore a CBI letter tabled in the House by the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone. The letter gives a clean chit to Omar Abdullah in the sex scandal case. As soon as the Speaker read the CBI letter stating that the name of the chief minister did not figure in the list of those accused in the sex scandal, PDP supremo Mehbooba Mufti tore the letter as a mark of protest.

She also shouted 'CBI cover up nahi chalega' slogans in the Assembly, which prompted other PDP MLAs to join the chorus. Mehbooba alleged that the CBI was covering up for Omar Abdullah in the case and demanded a judicial probe against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. This lead to a verbal duel between the ruling National Conference members and the opposition PDP, which refused to take cognisance of the CBI letter.

Pandemonium prevailed in the House as the two sides refused to listen to repeated directions by the Speaker. Even as the two sides fought inside the house, PDP and NC supporters clashed outside the Legislative Assembly complex where angry workers from both parties pelted stones at each other, forcing the police to fire teargas shells and cane-charge the miscreants to prevent the situation from turning ugly.
