Home minister P Chidambaram was optimistic in announcing that in Kashmir, the State police is doing a commendable job and now the Jammu and Kashmir police is prepared to be given the charge of being the frontline force in combating militancy.
HOME MINISTER P Chidambaram has ruled out the presence of Taliban Militants in Kashmir. “The reports that the Taliban militants have sneaked into Kashmir are false and the is no base in these reports,” Home Minister said this in reply to a question posed to him at a press briefing at Mumbai. Home minister was optimistic in announcing that in Kashmir, the State police is doing a commendable job and now the Jammu and Kashmir police is prepared to be given the charge of being the frontline force in combating militancy. “This issue is being discussed by the central government for almost six months, as to work out the decision to hand over the situation over to the J&K police."
Home Minister also advocated that the brave girl from Jammu region, Rukhsana, who had killed a Lashkar militant be given the bravery award by the Government of India.
Meanwhile the security forces have launched a massive man hunt in and around the Pampore forests, where about 10 militants managed to flee while giving a slip to the security forces early morning. Choppers have been put into action to nab militants in this area and also a red alert has been sounded across Valley in general and the Pampore ares in the outskirts of Srinagar City, in particular.
Inspector general of Police, Kashmir Farooq Ahmad while giving details said that security forces cordoned the hideout on specific information at around 6 am in the morning. “The militants hiding inside the hideout fired grenades upon the security forces amid that they managed to flee, one of the militant was gunned down in the exchange of the fire and about 9 of them escaped the spot and are hiding in the nearby forest area, we have launched the search operations and efforts are on to nab all of them,” IGP added.
Cheif Minister, Omar Abdullah has described the recent spurt in militancy as an attack on the bread and butter of the people associated with tourism trade in Kashmir. He said this while talking to the media after inaugurating two day tourism festival in Srinagar.
