JNU Row: Kanhaiya Kumar gets six months interim bail
Kanhaiya Kumar got a conditional bail from the Delhi High Court on Wednesday. He was arrested on sedation charges three weeks back in JNU for raising anti-India slogans inside the campus during an event organized on February 9.

His arrest has led to a mass protests and the opposition alleging that the government was trying to crush dissent. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has backed Kanhaiya Kumar, and even his case was taken up by Congress leader Kapil Sibal.

Justice Pratibha Rani on Tuesday had reserved the order after over three hours of hearing on the bail plea of Kumar. He has been asked to guarantee that he will not participate in any 'anti-national activity' and will appear for investigations whenever required.

She said, "Sometimes students who misinterpret freedom of speech need to be cured. Whenever some infection is spread in a limb, effort is made to cure it by giving antibiotics orally... if the infection results in infecting the limb to the extent that it becomes gangrene, amputation is the only treatment... To enable him to remain in the mainstream, at present I am inclined to opt for the conservative method of treatment," as reported by NDTV.

On February 9, some students in JNU had marked the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, in which anti-India slogans were raised. Apart from Kanhaiya Kumar, two more students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya have been arrested on the same charges.
