Lima's wife, Dorca Astacio said, 'Jose was complaining while sleeping and I just thought he was having a nightmare. I called the paramedics, but they couldn't help him.'
JOSE LIMA has died from an immense heart attack at the age of 37 at his home in Los Angeles. Jose was a major league pitcher and he last pitched in the major leagues in 2006, when he lost all four of his starts for the Mets and had a 9.87 ERA. His career record was 89-102 with a 5.26 ERA in 348 games (235 starts). He played in 13 major league seasons.
Lima's wife, Dorca Astacio said, "Jose was complaining while sleeping and I just thought he was having a nightmare. I called the paramedics, but they couldn't help him."
Lima pitched 13 seasons in the majors with Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets. It is sad news for Jose’s family as he dies at a quite young age.
Dodger’s owner Frank McCourt said that he was shocked after listening to this news. He said, “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Jose Lima. Though he was taken from us way too soon, he truly lived his life to the fullest and his personality was simply unforgettable. He had the ability to light up a room and that's exactly what he did every time I saw him."
One of the best performances by Jose at Dodger Stadium was in 2004 when he pitched a complete game, five-hit shutout in Game 3 against the Cardinals giving the team its first postseason win since 1988.
Jose was a member of Dodger Alumni Association and he also attended a game last Friday and the crowd was shouting when he entered the stadium. His association was preparing to open a youth baseball academy this summer in Los Angeles but now everything is finished after his death.
