During the last twenty years altogether 230 journalists have been killed and out of these 22 are from this region.One senior woman Journalist was attacked last year at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh but police unable to nabbed the culprit till today.“Journalism is a flowing river, of course presently, a section is seenbecoming dishonest abusing their power, and in this regard journalistsare to be aware” he maintained.
Another speaker, noted playwright,social worker Asarya Kakoti said that honesty, courage andimpartiality should be reflected in the character of a journalist.Journalism is a graceful chariot. Fear of death cannot keep itstagnant. Cowards only attack the journalist.The occasion was started with lighting of lamp before the portrait ofthe late Kamala Saikia by noted writer Mrinali Setia. She also spokeon the life and sacrifice of the martyr journalist.
The day long programme was conducted by working president of SJU, Sanjib Hazarikaand subsequently, Secretary SJU, Manuj Kumar Saikia explained the purpose of the function. In the programme, two artistes, Tarun Saikia and Pramud Bora were felicitated for their contribution towards thecultural field. Among others the occasion was attended by notedjournalist Manik Bora.
