Reports given by such judicial panels were accused of being political, in line with the ideology of the current political rulers. The panel on Gujarat riots and the one on the Godhra train burning incident were consistent with their leader's ideology
THE MUCH talked about Librahan Committee report and the subsequent action taken report prepared by Home Ministry seem to be an eyewash on the complete matter, with no concrete result possible out of these, even seventeen years after the incident. The findings have also not been accepted and have instead been labelled as political.
Earlier too, the reports tendered by two such judicial panels have been accused of being political and in line with the ideology of the current political rulers. The panel on the Gujarat riots constituted by the Modi government and the one on the infamous Godhra train burning incident constituted by then Railways minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, were consistent with their leader's ideology.
The accusation on the Librahan Committee report has been based on the fact that, it interestingly did not comment on the position of the then Prime Minister PV Narsimharao, when the Babri Masjid was razed.
To ensure dignity of the term ‘Judicial Panels’, these should be constituted by a high level Judicial Commission, having retired Supreme Court judges as member-nominees of President, Prime Minister, Chief justice of India, Opposition leader and President of Bar body, with Chief Vigilance Commissioner as its ex-officio member.
