Junk food can damage your memory in just six days
We all know that junk food is not healthy, but still it is always appealing for a variety of reasons, which includes its high palatability, reasonable price, easy availability etc. The things, which make it palatable are its high sugar content in liquid form, high amount of fat, higher calorie in small amount etc., all this makes the food more attractive and appealing.

We always have a mindset that eating junk food just increases our waist line and regular exercise will compensate it. But according to a new study, junk food not only hurts your health but also your memory. Eating a diet loaded with saturated fat and sugar may have an immediate effect on brains cognitive ability and can cause memory loss.

The research, which was conducted on rats revealed that exposure to junk food over just six days reduces the ability to notice when an object has been removed to a new location. Consuming high sugar and fat diet for one week effects the hippo-campus (the brain structure which is critical for learning and memory). The study also suggested that the damage was not reversed when the rats were switched back to a healthy diet, reported ANI.

Junk food has a significant effect on children's study habits also. It depletes the energy levels and the ability to concentrate for extended period of time, which are very crucial for the school going children. It also increases the risk of obesity and chronic illness and takes a toll on the self-esteem and confidence in oneself, which is extremely important for growing children.

Junk food can affect the child's physical development in various ways, which includes unhealthy weight gain, depression, growth and development, social relationship and performance in school, and all this might lead to an increase in suicidal tendency in children.
