Justin Bieber's India tour a damp squib: Lip syncing Bieber leaves Indian fans unimpressed
Although there had been a lot of hype around Canadian singer Justin Bieber's maiden Indian concert that was held at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, May 10, there were a lot of fans for whom the event turned out to be a damp squib.

Wednesday's concert was part of Justin Bieber's Purpose World Tour.

Many fans who attended the 23-year-old singer's concert on Wednesday called it a "low on energy" show. What turned off the fans most was that Bieber was seen lip syncing most of the songs.

Amit Sarkar, a fan who had been waiting for the concert since February, was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, "It's like he [Justin] is playing it straight from his CD. I cannot believe that he is pulling this off. It's quite clear that he is not singing these songs."

Tina Joshi, another young fan present at the concert, noticed that Bieber looked out of shape. She said, "May be it's the heat and he is not used to it. It's disappointing to see him perform like this. I expected him to sing LIVE, but he just sounds like his songs on my play list."

While most fans rued the fact that Biber did not perform LIVE, many fans expressed their disappointment that the Canadian singer gave a miss to many of his popular numbers.

"He did not sing I'm the one!!" said a disappointed Anurag Dixit, on being asked about what he did not like about the concert. He also added, "It's such a nice song and it's my favourite. I don't know why he didn't sing it."

However, Bieber's dance troupe, which performed flawlessly proved to be the saving grace of the show. The performance of the background dancers caught the attention of the audience. "I think dancers were his only saviours. Honestly, it was a bit underwhelming from him considering that it was his first show here [India]. Although he has promised to come back, I am keeping my fingers crossed for the next time," Siddharth Arora told HT.

Hosted by Harry Potter actress Elarica Johnson, Bieber's Mumbai concert began at 4 pm. The 45,000-strong audience comprising of mostly teenage Bieber fans also included Bollywood celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Sridevi, Malaika Arora, Arjun Rampal and Sonali Bendre.

Justin Bieber appeared on the stage a little later than 8 pm, as was scheduled, just moments after arriving at the DY Patil stadium in a chopper. He began the concert by performing his hit track Mark My Words, and ultimately drew the curtains by singing Baby, a song largely responsible for the outbreak of Bieber-Fever.

Justin Bieber's Purpose World Tour will make its next stopover in Johannesburg, South Africa.
