K. Aravind Rao has been appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh. Rao's appointment comes at time, when his leadership will help the state police to counter the naxal menace.

It is also worthwhile to mention that Sri Krishna Committee on Telangana issue will also release its report in four months and the situation will need to be handled with extreme care. It is important that whatever report the Committee comes out with, the state government should ensure that calmness prevails and matters are resolved through dialogue.

People from all walks of life including the civil society have welcomed the appointment of Aravinda Rao as state DGP. Rao has served various parts of the state with excellence and has served in both intelligence and law and order departments, both of which are two crucial wings of state police.

Aravinda Rao hails from Rayalaseema (Anantapur) and he has served at crucial posts in the governments of Chandrababu Naidu and YS Rajasekhara Reddy. He has a vast experience in maintaining law and order and he has served as SP of Medak, Kadapa and Warangal. He was the first police commissioner of Vijayawada City and DIG of Guntur range.
