K. Rajendra likely to replace Ashok Prasad as DGP of J&K
Stage is all set for the Director General of Jail to take over as J&K's new Director General of Police, as the Union Government has decided to send Ashok Prasad to his parent Department i.e. Intelligence Bureau (IB), with a bigger responsibility as the head of the Bureau.

Intelligence Bureau, a national secret agency, carries out secret missions for the country. As per the sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA, the Union Government has finalized the name of 1979 batch IPS officer Ashok Prasad for the top post of the Intelligence Bureau and very soon he is going to take the charge of his new assignment.

Whereas, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir K Rajendra Kumar, a 1984 batch IPS officer, is seen as successor of Ashok Prasad, as per the highly placed sources of Chief Minister’s office (CMO). The CM Omar Abdullah has also given his consent on the name of K Rajendra to New Delhi.

It may be recalled that on May 31, 2013 Ashok Prasad, the then Additional Director of Intelligence Bureau, was given the assignment of DGP Jammu and Kashmir. K Rajendra took charge from the outgoing DGP Kuldeep Khoda and handed over the charge of DGP Jammu and Kashmir to Ashok Prasad on July 23,2013.

The sources in MHA also revealed that order for Prasad's appointment as the new Chief of Intelligence Bureau may come in next few days and he has been asked to complete his pending assignments as soon as possible. A top police officer in the Police Head Quarter (PHQ) on the condition that his name be kept hidden also confirmed the news of Ashok Parsad’s departure as he says that the pending files are been cleared at war footing, which clearly indicated that the present DGP may depart any time.

As per the sources in Chief Minister’s office and MHA, Ashok Prasad was much more interested in the appointment of P.L. Gupta, IPS, than K. Rajendra Kumar to be made his successor. But Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has ruled out Prasad’s suggestions. Keeping in view the upcoming Parliament and state elections Omar has opted to go for K. Rajendra Kumar rather than P.L.Gupta
