Dr Kalam on his two day visit to Bihar discussed a number of issues including the Kosi floods and catastrophe. The problem of floods in particular is linked to Nepal but Bihar can do quite a lot to contain it
ABDUL KALAM wants new technology of water management in Bihar. In this aspect, he has given several important suggestions to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He addressed the fifth general meeting of 'Vision 2020: The Right-to-site - India' at AN Sinha Institute where he emphasised on the need of 'Quality Vision'.
Dr Kalam came to Bihar on a two-days visit and had his breakfast with Nitish Kumar. At this occasion Legislative Council Chairman Prof Arun Kumar, Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and several top officials of state government were also present. He talked about 'politics of development' and 'the politics of political parties' during informal conversation with reporters. He said that the politics of development is better for the country.
He is connected with the people and works for the benefit of the people, he also discussed about the Kosi floods. He said that the origin of rivers, from where floods are coming will be discussed with Nepal government, but the state government should also take steps to control the damage. Nitish Kumar said that his government wants to link the rivers across the state, so that their water can be better used and the destruction caused by floods can be avoided.
After the discussion with Dr Kalam, CM Nitish Kumar said the government is already in the process of preparing a DPR on the river linking project. The first phase plans to link the rivers of north Bihar with each other. Since not all the rivers winess flood together, the linking of these can well reduce the impact of floods. He said that Dr Kalam also discussed about water harvesting. Nitish Kumar said that flood water can be transferred from the rivers of North Bihar to South Bihar. He said that plan to link the rivers is different to the centre's plan of interlinking of rivers.
