THE INDIAN cricket team, which won the Prudential World Cup, 1983, left for London on Tuesday (June24), to commemorate twenty-five years of their historic triumph at Lord’s.
The entire squad, except Ravi Shastri, accompanied by their spouses, boarded a brand new Boeing 777-300 (ER) for the British capital. Commentator and former opening batsman, Sunil Gavaskar has organised a dinner to celebrate the silver-jubilee of the victory on Wednesday (June 25).
Before departure, Kapil Dev, the skipper of the ’83 squad, and the rest of the team, cut a cake to mark the occasion. The legendary all-rounder expressed his gratitude to Air India for making their departure a momentous occasion despite a lapse of twenty-five years.
Air India’s executive director (corporate communication) Jitender Bhargav, and DS Kohli, executive directive (northern region) were at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, to see off the squad.
