'Tragedy is the new cool,' proclaims Alia Bhatt's character in the first trailer of Karan Johar's upcoming release '2 States.' While there are other biting dialogues in the trailer, for people who have read the Chetan Bhagat book of the same name, the trailer falls short of any steam.
Don't get me wrong, visually the trailer looks very appealing and almost every frame of the trailer looks beautiful but the dialogues, story pace and the acting seems mediocre.
While many Alia Bhatt or Arjun Kapoor's loyalist would protest and say that it is too early to pass judgement on a film based on its first trailer, but to them I would just say - first impression is the last impression! We already know the story so Abhishek Varman ( director) and Chetan Bhagat (writer) could only have scored on acting, dialogues and script. For me at least, they have failed in all the three aspects.
Arjun Kapoor, who is playing protagonist seems drunk most of the time. He is trying to act the innocent Punjabi boy but is completely overshadowed by Tam Bram Alia Bhatt. She is the only person in the trailer, who appears spunky, beautiful and so like the character in the book. Arjun's Punjabi mom played by Amrita Singh seems to be trying hard, but lacks in front of Revati and the fathers' hardly feature in the trailer.
All in all, I was hugely disappointed with the trailer!
