Chhattar Singh, Principal Secretary to the chief minister of Haryana gave away the trophy and other prizes to the winning teams on the third and concluding day of the 23rd Sushil Kumar Memorial Haryana State Skating and Roller Hockey Championship organised in the Dronacharya Sports Complex at Kurukshetra.

In the senior category for boys, Panchkula secured the first position by pushing Karnal at the second position while Faridabad team trailed at the third position. However in the sub-junior category, Kurukshetra displayed great stamina and sports spirit and won the top position by defeating their arch rivals of Panchkula district. Yamunanagar had to remain content with the third position.
In the senior category for girls, Sirsa showcased their contesting mantle and grit over their sticks to get the top position, pushing Hisar to the second position.

In the girls’ sub-junior roller hockey competition, Yamunanagar excelled and bagged the first position by defeating the hosts Kurukshetra, who pushed the dynamic players of Sirsa at the third place by exhibiting the co-ordinated spirit during the matches on the last day.

There were many individual winners in various age categories of the roller skating competition, right from the tiny-tots to the senior categories, all displaying their enthusiasm to fly on the floor. The juniors, both boys and girls, also exhibited their roller skating skills by presenting many choreographed items of patriotism and nationalism on the eve of the Republic Day.

The most fascinating and attractive feature of the championship was the thrilling display of sticks by the girls in the presence oh the eight Shahabad girls, who had won gold in the Asian Women Hockey Championship held in China from 11th to 19th January this year. The presence of the Indian hockey coach, John David, was added encouragment for the players and visitors alike.

The winning team of Haryana State Roller Skating Championship will participate in the All India Roller Skating Championship slated to be organised in Vishakhapatanam (AP) from 13the February 2010 onwards. The Haryana team is aspiring for its position among the top ten there, if not in the first three.
