Karnataka: EC introduces SMS service to help voters
This service would be available today up to 5 pm. A 24x7 helpline number 22228888 is also there to help the voters. To get any kind election related information, one can dial the number. The number has been functioning since April 10.

 

THE OFFICE of the Chief Electoral Officer has launched an SMS based service in Karnataka to help voters get election related information in Bangalore North, Bangalore South and Bangalore parliamentary constituencies.


The voters can type their elector photo identity card (EPIC) number in their mobile phones and send it to 9481555555 to know the names of their parliamentary constituencies, part numbers, serial numbers and address of the polling booth.


While speaking to the media, MN Vidyashankar, the chief electoral officer said that non-BSNL customers can also get the information through the same process.


This service would be available today up to 5 pm. A 24x7 helpline number 22228888 is also there to help the voters. To get any kind election related information, one can dial the number. The number has been functioning since April 10.


The CEO further said that location based service has been launched in Shimoga and Bellary constituencies to track the movement of the sector officers.


Such a tracking system during election has been applied for the first time in India. The EC also hopes that it would help carry out a peaceful election.
