Karnataka education department too bats for Parents Worship Day on Feb. 14
After Chhattisgarh, now it the turn of the Karnataka education department (KED) to bat for Parents Worship Day on February 14. The KED has directed the commissioner of Collegiate Education and vice-chancellors of all universities in the state to observe 'Bhavanamana' in all colleges on the Valentine's Day.
A circular was sent yesterday only, referring to a note by the minister for higher education of the state, that students should be made aware of the Upanishadic verse and message Mathrudevo bhava, Pithrudevo bhava- meaning 'treat mother and father as gods' - and February 14 be observed as Parents' Worship Day. Higher Education Minister, C.T. Ravi, stated that Karnataka Government praises the concept of divine Valentine's day in the form of Parents Worship Day.
Sant Asaram Bapu has gone to the extent of saying that on this day the children should bow to their parents and parents should caress their children affectionately, who in turn should embrace their parents to foster true love.

Very good initiative. But I think the article is written in a biased manner . Why use the adjective "Right wing" when a group supports Parents' worship? For the information of the author, not only BJP but also MPs/MLAs from Congress(is it "Right Wing ???-reply Dr. Lalit Kishore), Shiv Sena and the President (a former Congressman )himself, and many others from all walks of life have welcomed this initiative. Parents' Worship Day was celebrated in a divine manner in 167 countries not only by Hindus but also by some Christians and Muslims.
Yogesh has pointed out a very valid issue : Its not about only appreciation towards parents, but also for the parents to turn their children into great souls.
How many Valentine revellers would even realize the need to do so?

Very good decision by Karnataka Government. Those who are opposing Parents' worship day and trying to promote Valentine day among youths should take a look at the stats of increasing crime rates among youths around this day. I would like to add that Parents' worship day is not only for children to show their love but the more important aspect is to inspire the parents to give good moral values to their children, which is lacking unfortunately in many families these days. And please do not use words like "has gone to the extent of saying". When someone says something , it doesn't mean that an extent has been reached. It shows the fault-finding nature of the author in even the best of things.
