Karnataka government may impose higher tax on second car to combat pollution
The Karnataka government is mulling with the idea of hiking the vehicle registration fee and other charges for those who want to own more than one four-wheeler. The move is intended towards combating growing pollution and traffic congestion in Bengaluru.

A senior official of the urban development department said, "We're working this plan... higher tax on the second vehicle would discourage citizens from owning too many vehicles, and also raise additional revenue for the government. Before we take it forward, we have sought opinion from experts on how to go about it."

The official also said that additional tax may also be levied on companies who buy vehicles for their employees.
