The BJP government had won the vote of confidence with 106 members (excluding the Speaker K G Bopaiah) supporting it and the opposition logging 100 votes in a House with an effective strength of 208.
THE PETITION filed by five independent MLAs, who had challenged their disqualification from the Assembly membership is all set to be heard in the Karnataka High Court on Monday. The High Court had earlier said that the result of the October 15 trust vote of the B S Yeddyurappa government would be subject to its final decision on this petition.
The BJP government had won the vote of confidence with 106 members (excluding the Speaker K G Bopaiah) supporting it and the opposition logging 100 votes in a House with an effective strength of 208.The result of this is that even if the five independents win the case, the government will still continue to have the numbers in its favour. With a hope that the High Court will pass its verdict on the disqualification of 11 BJP rebel MLAs, parties like Congress and JD(S) held a number of meetings over the weekend.
While JD (S) state president H D Kumaraswamy met Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily on Saturday and discussed the future strategy to be adopted in the aftermath of the HC verdict, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah and Kumaraswamy were closeted at former union minister CM Ibrahim's residence for over two hours on Sunday.
