Kasganj violence: 50 arrested; internet shut down; RAF deployed but situation still remains tense
The clashes had initially erupted on the Republic Day, a day to mark the unity of the country.

Violence in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj continues with buses and shops being torched and communal harmony destroyed. One person identified as Chandan Gupta was killed in the firing as part of the violence that erupted when two religious groups clashed.

The violence began when the two groups, one busy with hoisting the Tiranga and the other holding a 'Tiranga yatra' clashed. The two groups had an altercation which was quickly controlled. But the 'Tiranga yatra' group went to another area and clashed with members of another religious group and the clash grew leading to one person losing his life in the firing.

The incident has left the atmosphere of Kasanj disturbed, and the situation still remains tense. The district administration has asked schools and colleges to remain shut as a precautionary measure. Security agencies have deployed Rapid Action Force to maintain peace in the area along with a curfew being imposed. Not only this, to prevent any kind of rumours from spreading, the district administration has suspended internet services in the city.

The police have claimed that the men involved in the clashes have been identified and attempts to arrest them are on. The police have registered two cases in connection with the clashes and media reports have suggested that about 50 people have been arrested. India Today has reported that while 10 of the detained have been arrested on charges of murder and rioting, 39 others have been arrested for disruption of law and order.

Along with Chandan losing his life, one person identified as Naushad received injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
