GOING BY the recent incidents with the migrant Kashmiri Pandits (KP), living in forced exile camps in Jammu and Kashmir requiring urgent money for emergency medical exigencies, the need of the hour is to create a Kashmiri Pandit welfare fund. The KPs can contribute in this fund according to their capacity so that money is given to the needy, whenever required.
The creation of welfare fund is important to stop the misuse of the donations given by the philanthropist and introduce accountability of the public money.
There are reports that many people, after receiving huge donations not only decline to accept the help, but also refuse to talk to media when they seek comments about the donations.
Recently, there was an initiative taken by few social activist KPss to help a Kashmiri Pandit family, which resulted in huge donations coming from all over the globe, particularly with the tireless efforts of known film director Ashok Pandit, Rockey Pandita and King C Bharati.
However, the sad part is that the family when approached by a top media channel for comments over their reaction to such a huge response, reportedly refused to talk to any media channel and instead blamed them for having vested interest in seeking the comments.
Since, such incidents can deter the philanthropists from helping other needy Pandits, it is time that the donors are not discouraged but instead provided with a platform where they can check whether their hard earned money has been utilised judiciously or not.
For this, a Kashmiri Pandit welfare fund account can be started to provide help only on production of medical bills or deputing proper person to see the actual need of the money.
In this way the extra money that gets deposited with the needy family can be utilised for other needy Pandits instead of letting them enjoy the left over.
