There are about 45 per cent Kashmiri speaking people in the region, who do not find representation in the programming chunk of the stations. The minister welcomed the sentiments of the delegation and appreciated their concern for Kashmiri Pundits.
IN THE two day Editor meet at Srinagar, Information and Broadcasting minister, Ambika Soni was reminded of that the Kashmiri Pandit migrants from the valley had no platform left to participate in the media. The Adbee Markaz Kamraz President, Aziz Hajini, Seretary Syed Sujaat Bukhari and prominent writer Bashir raised the issue of the lack of access in participation on Radio and Television programmes.
There are about 45 per cent Kashmiri speaking people in the region, who cannot find much representation in the programming chunk of the said stations. The minister welcomed the sentiments of the delegation and appreciated their concern about Kashmiri Pundits.
Kahmiri Pandits also thank the delegation for their concern. However, they feel that this bias is also reflected in the programming chunk of the Kashir channel, Doordarshan's regional channel. They feel that even though it is run by the national broadcaster, it is kept limited to the valley. Those Kashmiris who have been forced to live outside their homes, find least presence in the 24 hour programming schedule of this channel.
Their children also want to participate in the children programmes and youth and women want to exhibit their histrionics in the field of expression of different arts. They have got potential programme producing talent which is vanishing in exile and does not find space in the scheme of working of the channel.
Some even allege that the channel managers have deliberately dodged, let down and shown discrimination against these people. The space of Kashmiri Pandits in to the daily scheduling of the 24 hour run channel in terms of the broadcast hours is almost nil. This main issue should not be missed or ignored while addressing the above raised issue.
.It is not an issue of providing just time slots to afew producers or commissioning afew programmes of KP producers. The basic issue and concern is that of Kashmiri Pandit community culture and Art being completely ignored and blaced out from the media policy of the both organizations. There are no depiction of KPs participents in the programmes of AIR and Doordarshan. Both TV and Radio should cater to the needs of this community at different places through their talent and build in-house programmes in similar ways as are done in valley.
.It is sad that Kashmiri Pandits who happen to be the fore runners and builders of Radio and Television media in J&K are denied their space in the same. Government should immediately look into this issue and provide them ample share in the programming slot of the channels.
