LAMHAA, A Bollywood action thriller film written and directed by Rahul Dholakia, released on 16 July 2010. Set in Kashmir and aimed at depicting the pros and cons of situation in Kashmir, the film is a story about an army officer, played by Sanjay Dutt, and his love interest, played by Bipasha Basu, in the midst of the various political issues that Kashmir had faced over the years.
It also features Anupam Kher and Kunal Kapoor in supporting roles.
But, in the Valley of Kashmir, the majority of those who watched this movie have termed it as trash and slammed it on various counts. Since there are no functional theatres in Kashmir, the majority of movie watchers in Kashmir watch movies by downloading movies from internet.
This freelance journalist talked to various audiences who watched this movie and overwhelming response has been that Lamhaa is a super flop effort. Kaiser Ahmad Mir, a writer cum student said, “I watched this movie and it is far far from the real picture. This movie has no sense and seems to have no concrete message. It has overlooked the tremendous respect that people have pro-freedom leadership and tried unrealistically to malign their image. Kashmir Movement is not about using little children as portrayed by the movie; it is a peaceful movement of masses. Cohesion vise and even story vise Lamhaa is a super flop effort”.Idrees Ahmad, a student said,”Lamhaa has failed to get any sense of ground reality in this part of the world. The movie shows women being thrashed in public which has never happened in Kashmir. The film is boring, without any sense or sequence and can be termed as a flop and below average movie”.Another audience said, “It is just a propaganda movie and does not in way portray the true picture of Kashmir’s struggle. The movie makes no sense and has failed to impress the youth like me. It is just a below average effort”.Such views about movie are held by overwhelming majority who have watched this movie.Intrestetingly enough movies like Rajneeti have won great accolades from Kashmiri audiences.
