Kathmandu hosts first-ever South Asian gay sports festival
Transgenders were at the centre of attraction when the first ever South Asian gay sports festival was held in Kathmandu, Nepal. Gay athletes from all over the world were part of the colourful event, which included sports such as basketball, volleyball, football, martial arts and tennis.
IT MIGHT be a norm in some societies to look down upon transgenders, but same doesn't hold true when it comes to Nepal. People from the community were seen enjoying while playing various
sports such as basketball, volleyball, football, martial arts and tennis in Kathmandu, in the first ever sports tournament held for homosexuals in Asia.
People from such community are known for their unity all over the world. Along with locals, there were a number of athletes that had also come for the mega event. It was a good sight to see such people involved in different sports and show the rest of the
world that they are also a talented bunch.
There were a large number of spectators that had come to witness the event, which was encouraging for athletes. The best part of the event was when these athletes were in a celebratory mood, as they were also seen dancing, enjoying their life to the fullest. So was the case with the crowd in colourful clothing, who were also enjoying their presence.
With such kind of events taking place, it shows that the world is gradually changing and are also welcoming such people in their stride. Now, even in Kathmandu, there are various gay beauty contests and parades, which are held frequently. But, around six years or so, homosexuals were not treated fairly. They were also beaten on the streets, reported torontosun.com. Better late than never – the attitude of the world is changing towards homosexuals.
