Remote Control was MTV’s one of the earliest attempts to get itself into game shows, other than just music videos. The game show was very famous and liked by one and all, though it lasted for just 5 seasons from 1987 to 1990.The show was a launching pad for Adam Sandler, Denis Leary and Colin Quinn. They appeared in sketches such as The Laughing Guy and Stud Boy that functioned as quiz questions.
Ober after being the host for 5 seasons for Remote Control game show, went on to host other game shows like Smush and a 1997 revival of Make Me Laugh. He worked as a consulting producer on The New Adventures of Old Christine. He even worked as a writer and a producer on Comedy Central’s The Mind of Mencia. Ober had acted in TV series such as Parenthood, Who’s the boss and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.Sandler said that Ken Ober was one of the sharpest, quickest and sweetest guys he had ever met. Lee Kernis of Brillstein Entertainment Partners who represented Ober confirmed Ober’s death and an autopsy is planned. Ober’s friends said that Ober was not feeling good and had a headache and flu like symptoms from Saturday and did not even meet them as planned.Ober – his given surname was Oberding was brought up in Boston. He considered game show hosts such as Bob Eubanks and Bob Barker as his heroes and had even placed portraits of many game show hosts on Remote Control set’s walls.Ken Ober who was single is survived by his mother, Claire Freeman, his father Burton, stepmother Iris and brother Andrew.
