Kerala is all set to introduce 'transgender clinics' in all medical colleges
The transgender community in Kerala has now many reasons to cheer, as the state government is all set to provide a big relief to them.

According to Health Minister KK Shailaja, 'transgender clinics' will be set up in all government-run medical college hospitals soon.

Regarding this, a decision has been taken and a clinic has already been set up at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital on a pilot basis.

Last year, a school named Sahaj International was opened in Kerala's Ernakulam district in order to give equal opportunities to transgenders who had dropped out from their schools.

According to the media report, transgender clinics will function on the first Tuesday of every month. The doctors from general medicine, psychiatry, dermatology, endocrinology and plastic surgery will be attending the patients at the transgender clinics.

Apart from this, health cards will also be dispensed to the transgender patients through the clinics.

"It is a fact that transgender persons are not getting timely and adequate treatment. These clinics will provide them support for their health care. There are some peculiar health issues faced by this section of the people and they are not aware of the treatments available. These clinics will help address this," said the Health Minister.

Besides that, the government is now planning to open an exclusive surgical wing for transgender persons. Initially, such surgical wings will be established in the two medical college hospitals.
