Kerala teen jumps to death after allegedly facing harassment in school
In another case of suicide over harassment, a girl jumped from her school building in Kerala.

The 15-year-old girl, allegedly faced harassment in her school. She was a student of class X at the Trinity Lyceum School.

As per reports, as a punishment, the girl was made to sit with boys of her class and got into an argument with her teachers when she questioned the punishment given to her.

The girl had reported the incident to her parents who informed the school authorities that they will be filing a complaint against the involved teachers. However, they reportedly did not do so as the school authorities assured them that such an incident would not be repeated.

As the two sisters joined back the school, they were allegedly teased by their friends over the punishment. According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle, the girls entered into a verbal spat with their classmates, and the teachers punished them again.

Later, the elder of the girls jumped from the third floor of the school building. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital and was later shifted to a specialty hospital in Thiruvananthapuram but she could not sustain the injuries.

Two teachers of the school have been booked on charges of abetment of suicide and are investigating the case.

Reports have also said that a number of student organisations held protests outside the school against the school authorities.

Many such cases of harassment by the school authorities have been reported in the past throughout the country. While the lack of sensitisation among teachers is a major issue in such cases, lack of awareness among students is another.
