Killing of Arunachal student Nido Taniam in New Delhi: Social media mourns with shock
The social media is deeply mourning the tragic death of young Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Taniam, 20, after racist remarks and thrashing. Today, protests at Delhi market, where he was allegedly beaten mercilessly and fatally, are going to held and several social groups and students from the North-East. People have requested through social media to support the protest and participate in it.
According to the news reports, Nido Taniam was allegedly beaten by a group of men in South Delhi's Lajpat Nagar market on Wednesday and was found dead in his bedroom on Thursday. After pressure and protests, the Delhi
police have registered a murder case against 'unknown persons' and have reportedly detained one man involved in the hate crime.
In the social media, Nido's death is being seen as a heinous hate crime, a worst case of racism, regional bias and total negligence by the police. Tania Nido has been a victim of prejudice, stereotype and utter intolerance of people from the north-east, is a common comment in the social media.
In a hate crime, the perpetrator targets a victim because of colour, caste, creed, gender, religion, language, social group, region, appearance or life style. The hate crime incidents not only involve physical assault but acts like bias-motivated damage to property, intimidating, bullying, harassment, verbal abuse, insults, or offensive graffiti or messages.
