Kim Jong-un's surprise China visit: His first overseas trip since ascension to power
In what could signal a historic move in the world of diplomacy, Bloomberg reported on Monday that the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is on a visit to China.

If true, it would be Kim's first visit to any overseas country since he ascended to the throne in 2011. This comes after news of his probable meeting with United States President Donald Trump.

Beijing has always been a close ally of North Korea but meetings between the two countries are not often. However government sources of neither China nor North Korea have confirmed the development.

It is been speculated that Kim took a train from Dadong to Beijing. Media reports have suggested that the security at the Dadong station was tightened and it is believed that Kim passed thought this station. Nippon TV, television channel based in Japan showed visuals of a train arriving at Beijing. The train looked similar to the one that Kim's father had used during his Beijing visit.

The security upgrade could also be seen in China with tourists being cleared out from Tiananmen Square and the Great Hall witnessing a large security presence. This is similar to Kim's predecessor Kim Jong-il. He had also traveled by a private train and reports of his visit were confirmed by both the countries only once he had left the country.

Details of his trip including the length of his stay and whom he would meet were not available. The meeting could be a new beginning in the strained ties between Beijing and North Korea. The ties have been strained because of Kim not visiting Beijing since his ascension to power and lately China backing some sanctions against North Korea.
