Kiss of death: Assamese woman who kissed Rahul Gandhi during his chaupal, burnt to death by husband
The day started with a shocking news doing the rounds- 'the woman who kissed Rahul Gandhi in Assam's Jorhat was burnt to death by her husband.' Twitteratis compulsively spent their 140 characters trashing Rahul Gandhi, the party, the husband and subsequently the media.

There are many explanations for the incident, but the truth would remain between the deceased and the husband- who tried to commit suicide by burning himself, but is recovering in the hospital.

To try and grasp what might have happened between the two and how Rahul Gandhi is involved, we would have to take a step back. It was a national news when the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on his visit to Jorhat, Assam, was kissed on the cheeks by a Congress ward member namely Bonti.

On February 26, Gandhi was seen sitting in a discussion with around 600 women and Bonti made her way to the leader and kissed him on the cheeks, much to the apparent embarrassment of the young Gandhi heir.

It is only imaginable that Bonti was so overwhelmed to meet Gandhi in person and expressed herself at the moment, not realizing that it might not bore well in the small community. After this, we can only assume that things added up when it made news and Bonti's husband must have faced ridicule from their near and dear ones. What he did subsequently was not justified, but we must understand the society we live in- where egos are bigger than life and many things are taboo for women.

As per various media reports, the couple had a fight yesterday regarding the same matter, which culminated in the husband's burning the wife and then trying to take his own life in the same way. The police is investigating the matter and many believe that it can be a case of suicide. It could be a simple spur-of-the-moment-rage impulsive thinking by the husband or there can be a conspiracy theory.

Whatever the case, it proves once again that as a society we are so straight collared that we cannot let a small thing like this slip. Assuming that he took the step under pressure, it again goes to show that even men can't handle and fight the regressive thought process.

We are not only narrow minded but cruel, where we don't hesitate to bully people till the time they break under pressure. This death might be a very small example and we will stop talking about it soon, but it truly holds a mirror for the Indian society.
