Held on Makar Sankranti, the Kite Festival is a popular festival of Jaipur in which people of all ages including the foreigners participate. The festival is often held at Chaugan stadium. This year, the kite festival is being held on January 14.
ON THE day of Makar Sakranti, the Jaipur sky gets filled with the kites and looks like a huge collage of colourful shapes and designs. Every year, I too design and fly my own kites. It sets my soul soar with the kites to the heights of pure joy.

In Jaipur, on Makar Sakranti, men, women and children clamber to roof-tops to fly their colourful kites. Kite fights cutting each other’s kites become a craze. Social environment is full of excitement and cheerfulness.
Many children run around in streets to catch the cut and falling kites. Many try different methods to retrieve the kites stuck to trees and poles.
Furthermore, every five years, the International Desert Kite Festival is organized by the Government of Rajasthan, when one gets to see many big and shapely kites that are flown by expert kite makers and flyers.
It is an event worth watching and feeling the excitement among the populace and the tourists.
