Kolkata to ban selfies with deity during Durga Puja
As the auspicious festival of Durga Puja is approaching, the Kolkata Police is considering to ban selfies with goddess Durga during Puja in the city of joy. As per the police, selfie-enthusiasts are the biggest concern as they obstruct the smooth movement of people inside the marquee.

"They are a menace as they slow down the process of crowd movement, affecting the whole plan. We request organizers to create a special selfie zone and stop others from taking selfies from their point of choosing," said a senior official of the police.

The officials also think, the selfie takers create ruckus, especially when they gather in a group to take pictures. And the problem is so big that, the officials are preparing themselves to tackle the crowd and manage the annual congregation of visitors in the city by banning the trend of taking selfie in the backdrop of goddess Durga.

The Police has also decided to impose fine on people who disobey the rules. "We are considering all legal options and consulting our lawyers," the officer added.

However, the decision has been criticised by the visitors who think it is a dictate against personal freedom.

"Police cannot set rules on things that people do without harming others. Durga Puja is the biggest festival of the state and we wait for it all through the year. Taking selfies cannot be termed as a crime," said Sayantan Sen, a student as per a report in India Today.
