Konda Reddy people took out a rally at the Collector's office in Malkangiri, Orissa demanding that they be recognised & included in Scheduled Tribes, apart from fulfillment of other demands
MORE THAN five thousand Konda Reddy people took out a rally in front of Collector office Malkangiri, Orissa demanding that they be recognised and included in Scheduled Tribes and fulfill other demands.
They point out that the Konda Reddy people in Andhra Pradesh are recognised under Scheduled Tribes as per the Constitution of India whereas they are not. They claim that the Orissa Government has neglected and overlooked them by leaving them bereft of ST status.
As a result the development programmes under education, health, employment and agriculture do not have a provision for these people. Facilities like roads, electricity and communication are not developed for the community's eight villages.
The people of the Konda Reddy families of Malkangiri district, Orissa want this recognition so that they could partake necessary relief sanctioned to the drought victims of Malkangiri.
In the eight isolated interior grampanchayats where these people live, the Identity Cards of voters have still not been issued. Immediate survey arrangements and issue of voters Identity cards are some of their other demands. The Malkangiri District Konda Reddy Development Society President Rama Rao Majhi and other delegate members met the Malkangiri Additional District Magistrate, Banabihari Moanty and give a memorandum of their demands to the Collector of Malkangiri for fulfilment of their demands as soon as possible.
