Railway Budget
Kudos to Mr. Suresh Prabhu for presenting a different rail budget
For the first time in the history of Indian Parliament an innovative rail budget has been presented by any railway minister. Though it is fare hike free budget for passengers as well as traders, he also did not increase any goods tariff. But the minister, Suresh Prabhu presented this budget with a prospective to revamp the Indian railways.

For the first time in India people are feeling that the rail budget presented by Suresh Prabhu is very different. The Railway Minister and originally a Chartered Accountant, Suresh Prabhu has submitted the budget far from the conventions.

Indian people think railway budget means introduction of new trains and general budget means income tax concessions. But Suresh Prabhu has completely changed that view of the common man. He reflected in his budget that the rail budget also means strengthening the organisation with viability.

Soon after the presentation of the rail budget the immediate comments that we generally listen from various states is that the particular state is deprived of benefits with regard to new trains. But no Chief Minister had ever thought of the improvement of technology, facilities to passengers and security. If a train of their demand is announced then that particular Chief Minister says the budget is good. If not, the the budget is very bad.

For the first time in India railway budget has spoken what steps are going to be taken to strengthen and survive the organisation. The organisation of Railways has to take care of to sustain the present viability at least. Omitting all these every former railway minister had only wanted to satisfy the politicians while introducing number of new trains, which are unable to start because of lacking infrastructure.

The main assurance given to the passengers in the present budget is availability of drinking water at low price. Really this drinking water problem is not a minor one. Every vendor, except IRCTC contractors, sell drinking water according to their own price. Even in winters in railway coaches many private vendors used to sell the litre packaged drinking water more than the MRP. Sometimes it is five rupees extra and sometimes more than that. There is a water business running in railway coaches.

This should be curtailed immediately. Common man is unable to purchase water bottles in railway coaches. Hence they have to drink the un-hygenic water. The Railway authorities should give permission to TTEs, guards to punish the vendors who sell water more than the MRP.

The Railway Minister has spoken about giving speed to passenger as well as goods trains. What he said is correct that even many so called super-fast trains like Shatabdi, Rajadhani and Duranto run running slow than their stipulated speed. This has to be changed. Particularly many superfast trains are superfast for only name, but in reality their speed is less than the express trains.

The outlay for passenger amenities has extraordinarily increased by 67 per cent in the budget. Along with this he has announced that ticket booking time would be increased to four months prior to the travelling and passengers can get unreserved tickets with in five minutes of his arrival to the station.

Women passengers can now feel more secure and safe as they can dial toll free number 182 if they feel any danger coming. In addition to that a 24/7grivence number, 138 will start soon for the passengers.

To build new railway lines the minister opines that the private sector comes in. Only 10 new lines will be laid down with in the targeted time. Already he has told the house that pending projects would be priority for him and felt unhappy that over a considerable time period railways have not improved in any aspect.

The budget has stressed on more investments to gear up the prosperity of railways and this indicates more private partnership would be there more in future. He was submitting the budget with a great hope and goal said the railway minister. Anyhow Suresh Prabhu did a magic in submitting the budget which has less reactions.
