Kurukshetra University to honour CM of Haryana and PM of Mauritius
Kurukshetra University will confer its highest academic Doctorate's Degree (LL.D. Honorus Causa) on the Haryana Chief Minister Bhupender Singh Hooda, along with Mr Navin Chandra Ram Ghulam, the Prime Minister of Mauritius.

THE PRESIDENT of India Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil will be the chief guest in the XXIX Convocation being held by the university on February 8 next, in which the degrees will be conferred on both the dignitaries.

A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the Academic Council of the university held on January 27 afternoon in the Senate Hall of the university, presided over by the KU vice chancellor Lt General Dr DDS Sandhu. As the proposal mooted by the Department of Law was read by the member-secretary and the Registrar of the University Dr Surinder Deswal, the packed senate hall echoed with clapping and thumping of tables. It was passed unanimously by the academic council. The item was placed on the table by the university and was not listed in regular 25 odd items of academic importance, circulated earlier.

While Mr Navin Chandra Ram Ghulam will be conferred the doctorate degree, due to him since 2008, when a decision to this effect was taken by the university, but could not be materialised due to some reasons, for the meritorious social services done by him for the Mauritius people in general and Indian people in particular in the field of education - the Haryana chief minister Mr Bhupender Singh Hooda will be conferred this highest degree of this oldest prestigous university of Haryana for his contribution in the fields of higher education, technical education, female education, social upliftment and making highest standards for society and polity, the two-page resolution read.

Earlier also, a programme of the convocation was almost finalised for 14 January when Smt Pratibha Patil visited Panipat on the occasion of 251st anniversary of the Third battle of Panipat, but her arrival in Kurukshetra University could not take place. Now, the President's Office has confirmed the date and schedule of the convocation on 8 February when Mauritius PM Navin Chandra Ram Ghulam will be in Kurukshetra with Rajya Sabha MP Dr Ram Prakash who is a close friend of the Maritius prime minister.
