Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi's 'Baa' Sudha Shivpuri passes away at the age of 77
Known as Baa in Indian television, Sudha Shivpuri bid a goodbye to the industry and this world at the age of 77. Debuted in Basu Chatterjee's Swami (1977) movie, Sudha since then never looked back.

In most of television series and movies she gave her best as a supporting actor. Later in her career she aced in all the character roles, but it was Kyunki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi's Baa, which gave her eternal popularity in the television world.

She was in eighth class when her father passed away, which affected her mother like anything. Her mother fell ill, thus she took charge of her family. In 1968, she tied in knot with actor Om Shivpuri but continued with her theatre work. In theatre she worked in Aadhe Adhurey, Tughlaq etc.

Later, she along with her husband shifted to Mumbai from Rajasthan and it was just the beginning. After working in Hindi Cinema she shifted her focus from movies to television series. In 2000, she appeared before the audience in the role of Baa in Ekta Kapoor's serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Although after that she worked in other series too but her Baa role was quiet remarkable and commemorable.

Maya Memsaab

In 1993, Sudha worked with Ketan Mehta in Maya Memsaab. Starred by Shah Rukh Khan the movie was based on Gustave Flaubert's novel Madame Bovary. The movie was also in news during 90s for the controversial topless scene of Deepa Sahi.

Kasamh Se

The serial broadcaste on Zee channel and this Indian soap opera was produced by Ekta Kapoor in 2006. Here in this serial she played a vital role of Dadi. The serial launched under Balaji Telefilms which dealt with the tribulations of three sisters.


In 2003, she again made a move toward Bollywood and worked in Chandra Prakash Dwivedi movie Pinjar. The movie was based on India-Pakistan partition which showed how Muslim and Hindu got affected by the existing circumstances. In this Sudha played one of character mother role which name was Rahim.
