What went wrong?
Election was declared in 2004 by Advani and the company, a year earlier than its scheduled timings as the party was riding on the success of four Hindi heartland states. NDA lost the mandate and UPA took over.
Since then Vajpayee retired and due to such retirement he admired as one of best Prime Minister of India! In 2009, Advani was Prime Minister Candidate. Many thought that he deserved to be PM of India! BJP lost 2009 general elections!
It was the time when Advani should had retired gracefully as BJP lost the elections under his leadership. This is called decency in public life! Advani didn’t retire though Sushama Swaraj and Arun Jaitley took over the roles of opposition leaders in the parliament! It’s worth mentioning here that Advani himself opined during 2009 that Narendra Modi should be PM candidate for 2014!
His stature started decaying since he lost the election and still try to be relevant in Indian politics. This was neither digested by public nor BJP! He openly contradicted his own assessment of 2009 by opposing Modi.
The way he behaved after Goa incident and triggered split in NDA, it is understood by everybody that he is in possession of greed and intentionally harming both BJP and the NDA!
It’s always unfortunate to see tall leaders stooping to such level. He perhaps forgot that in late nineties he was also viewed like Modi as a polarizing figure!
It doesn’t matter whether Modi wins the elections for BJP or not, but yes, it should be learning lesson for public figures what they shouldn’t do to be cornered by own prodigies! Isn’t Advani pushed himself to oblivion in running after his greed?
