Land row being used by opposition, media to hit at Mayawati
If Congress thinks that a foul-mouthed Rita Bahuguna Joshi is the congress trump card in UP elections (we assume that a Gandhi member can never run for CMs post) they are living in a fool's paradise

IT IS getting so very mundanely palpable that all political ways are leading to Uttar Pradesh for Mayawati-bashing these days. So when Rahul Gandhi makes melodramatic “sneaks” into the remote areas village of Bhatta Parsaul to sympathise with the protesting farmers for higher land compensation, there is no sensation about it. For all the top channels camerawallas and their SUVs had already “sneaked” before Rahul Gandhi so that they were sitting comfortably to take a dozen different poses of the young leader sipping tea with the poor farmers.

More obvious is what follows next day. All major newspapers and channels carry Rahul Gandhi’s photos or images on the front page or prime time just confirming that media is hand-in-glove with Congress on this stage managed agitation. It is no secret that media is running a single point campaign to oust Mayawati with incessant negative publicity. No triviality suggested but which other Chief Minister is asked to resign over a suspicious scuffle and throwing of a national volleyball player out of the train? Does train security come under a state Chief Ministers? Is UP really the 'Achilles' heel' of India while everything is hunky-dory in rest of india?

National Crime Records Bureau reports that more crimes have taken place in year 2009 in Maharashtra(1,99,598), Andhra Pradesh (1,80,441), Tamil Nadu (1,74,691) and Madhya Pradesh (2,07,762) than Uttar Pradesh (1,72,884). Clearly, the most populous state is much better now in terms of law and order. And media’s best chief minister Modi has 1, 15,183 crimes in his ‘happy state’ – not far behind the others listed above.

This raises a question mark on whether the caste biased media and opposition are hell bent on not allowing re - election of the first ever single party government lead by a Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh? A recent survey by some psephologists indicating BSP coming back to power with even a stronger majority must have given a great headache to the opposition driving them to malign the government on false issues. Agreed, real issues like crimes committed by ruling MLAs must be focused on but what is going on currently is a carefully thought agenda for 2012 elections.

When “War” shows of Maya Vs Rahul run on prime time, interestingly, the ruler and incumbent Maya is shown as enraged while opposition party member Rahul is smiling as if signaling victory over her. Media never spares her nor compliments any of her achievements – as if she is useless. By the way she became the first person to serve longest office term in UPs recent history.

What is astonishing is that the farmer’s movement is clearly hijacked. How come “poor” farmers get away by killing two “brutal“ Police officers and abduct other 3 government officials? Sadly, nobody
condemns the killing of the police officers on duty. Entire opposition is camouflaging this so called farmers stir for raising anti-Mayawati sentiments for obvious political reason.

However, if Congress thinks that a foul-mouthed Rita Bahuguna Joshi is the congress trump card in UP elections (we assume that a Gandhi member can never run for CMs post) they are living in a fool’s paradise. Congress is resorting to publicity gimmick to get people’s attention. But even the people seem to understand the Congress crocodile tears as one of the young ladies in the village that Rahul visited asked him to leave immediately.

Land acquisition is not U. P centric issue alone as it is being made out. You will never see in the media farmer’s agitation in other states highlighted. So when lands are taken from farmers and developed in Bihar, Maharshtra and Gujarat it is called a development with progressive leaders. If similar thing happens in UP, it is being called being anti-farmer.

There were reports of Jaitapur nucler power plant project opposition by locals but Rahul Gandhi systematically avoids touching the Jaitapur topic. Unless Rahul takes on his own government also he will end up writing “Amul baby” all over himself as Kerala chief ministers would have liked.
