DESPITE ANNOUNCEMENT of ceasefire by the Sri Lankan government, Tamil Tigers on Monday claimed that armed forces of the country are continuing operations against civilian targets.
S Puleedevan, director of LTTE's Peace Secretariat told a pro-rebel website that Sri Lankan air force was still attacking civilian targets at Mu'l'li-vaaykkaal on Monday afternoon, despite announcing temporary ceasefire.
The LTTE leader alleged that government was trying to deceive the international community, including the people of Tamil Nadu. He also said that shelling had continued in the civilian zone and troops had yet not stopped operations, despite government claims.
Pertinent to mention that Sri Lankan government on Monday had announced temporary truce to enable the civilian rescue operation. As part of the ceasefire, the armed force were asked to stop using heavy caliber weapons against the rebels hiding in small stretch of land along the coast.
While the international community has welcomed the move as it will help in rescue of trapped civilians, terrorism experts have a different take on this announcement.
They opined that the final battle against the LTTE has reached a stage, where the armed forces do not need aircrafts and heavy guns to take on the tigers. The battle will now witness close combat and hand to hand fight and the ceasefire could thus be described as a tactical move to win the confidence of international community as well as bring an end to the LTTE forever.
