Lanza was carrying enough ammunition to kill all students in the school: Police
The mass killing of 26 children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary in the US due to gun rampaging on last Friday has indeed left a trail of sorrow and horror around the world.
THE TRAGIC incident has also highlighted the need for taking steps to halt the culture of intolerance and violence that seems to have become deep-rooted in the society. However, in the US, a fresh political debate around gun control has started and hopefully something meaningful will come out.
Meanwhile, the police investigations have revealed that the gunman, Adam Lanza, 20, was carrying enough ammunition to kill all students in the school if given enough time. The police have claimed that Adam shot himself in the head just as he heard that he has been surrounded by them.
Since Adam Lanza was an ex-student of the school and considered to be a good, docile and harmless person, it a time for serious debate in the US on weapon control and other issues like law enforcement, mental health of professionals, parents and educators in an effort to prevent more tragedies like Newtown, as Obama has rightly pointed out.
"Can (we) say that we're truly doing enough to give all the children of this country the chance they deserve to live out their lives in happiness and with purpose? I've been reflecting on this the last few days," Obama said at the prayer meeting held at Newtown.
