Lara Dutta and KBC have helped acid attack victim to have hope
The barbaric wound inflicted on the innocent Sonali destroyed her face; she lost her eyes, hearing senses, and voice. She was reduced to a living corpse. She wanted to die every day, even applied for euthanasia. But she helped in her cause by Lara Dutta, and she recently won Rs 25 lakhs on KBC.

WITHOUT ANY motive to hurt so-called intellectuals, custodians of Indian society, let me articulate straightaway, this incredible land no more need preachers and those who offer lip service.

Not many celebrities can claim that they are real celebrities barring handful of actors and actresses. Lara Dutta is one such exceptional celebrity; her contribution towards the rehabilitation of women inflicted with atrocities is highly commendable.

Words can’t capture the trauma, agony, tumultuous time acid attack victim, Sonali Mukherjee has encountered and has been constantly encountering since 2003 when youths poured acid on her face in Dhanbad in Jharkhand. In this very year this beautiful girl fraught with dreams, vision, vibrancy was attacked by three derange youths with barbaric psyche. Why? Her only fault - she refused their advances.

The barbaric wound inflicted on the innocent Sonali destroyed her face; she lost her eyes, hearing senses, voice. She was reduced to a living corpse. She wanted to die every day, even applied for euthanasia.

Sonali went through strenuous 22 surgeries, after four years of that attack, she began speaking and hearing. Her vision is still far away. But can she ever overcome that trauma.

She is an epitome of grit, determination and courage. She wants to win the challenging, thorny battle of life. Her attackers were let off after hardly four months behind the bar. Shame on such a judicial system.

Sonali participated in KBC as she was selected for special programme called ‘Doosra Mauka’. Overcoming her trauma, she went on to win Rs 25 lakh, the much needed amount for surgery. Hats off to legendary Amitabh Bachchan for offering a chance to Sonali.

Kudos to Lara! We are proud of you; you are one of the real celebrities, way ahead of many heroes and heroines, who are good on silver screen, often resort to lip service but in real life, they hardly bother to make the difference…Who cares?

Gorgeous Lara has been a Goodwill Ambassador for UNFPA, playing prominent role in AIDS awareness. Also, she is part of another noble cause, ‘Missing Campaign’ that focuses on issues pertaining to dwindling gender ratio. Lara, the winner of prestigious beauty pageant, Miss Universe 2000, true to her beauty has been making difference in the lives of hundreds of Sonali who otherwise will remain in oblivion. Wish nation has many more true celebrities like Lara.
