Laughter therapy is meant to be administered professionally for real benefits: Special on World Laughter Day
Laughter can work as medicine, inform many studies now. When a designed laughter intervention is used for combating the physical effects of stress or enhancing wellbeing by a certified practitioner, it is called laughter therapy.

When we laugh under the guidance of a therapist, our body produces endorphins and releases it into the blood stream to mitigate stress and pain.

After diagnosis of the client or patient, a laughter therapist designs the intervention to help him or her to laugh more purposefully and easily. Often, laughter therapy is administered procedurally in small group or in one-to-one situation.

In most individualized sessions, therapist starts with a warm-up session followed by a range of mock laughter activities designed for the client since body can't actually distinguish between real and mock or forced laughter. Laughter yoga also works on the same principle of faking laughter but it is done for mental peace or combining body and mind.

However, a therapist even determines cortisol hormone level before the intervention. It is cortisol that the body releases when someone is under stress or in pain. Some others measure the immune level of the client which is supposed to increase after some sessions of the laughter therapy stress. Some therapists use laughter yoga for a minute or so as warm up to enhance oxygen level in the lungs before the designed laughter intervention is carried out.

The therapeutic effects of laughter have been proved scientifically when therapists have worked within the healthcare professional conventions. Besides working as medicine, designed laughter therapy sessions improve muscle tone and cardiovascular functions by booting oxygen levels in the blood. Through autosuggestion, laughter is at times sent to the limb or organ that is suffering or recouping.

The laughter therapy with the client lying down has also been tried after simple surgery or during pregnancy. Those who suffer from glaucoma, hernias or haemorrhoids undergo laughter therapy in the bed.

However, it needs to be understood that laughter therapy is a professional service meant to  promote the value of laughter as a therapeutic exercise in consultation with the doctor who is treating the patient.
