Law should be made to punish parents for giving dowry
In order to eradicate the deep rooted malaise of dowry system which has made people sick, government of India should make provisions under which the parents of the girls could be punished for giving dowry.
THE CHARM of getting settled in United States of America or abroad elsewhere has been trapping many young and pretty girls, who have been found later either committing suicide or were being ruthlessly murdered for more money. In such cases, an FIR should also be lodged against the parents of bride, who give dowry especially heavy cash in order to get non-resident Indian (NRI) boys, who turn out frauds in majority of the cases. A recent case which hit the media headlines is of a Gurgaon girl Neha, who was married to Ankit (NRI) the son of a senior medico in Gurgaon (Haryana). Neha committed suicide by jumping into the sea from the ship where her husband was employed.
I have little sympathy for the family of the unfortunate girl, which gave dowry to get their girl settled. Such people are the real cause behind killing of the girl child in this country. Neha was working as an air hostess before she tied the knot with Ankit. In her last e-mail which she sent to her brother from the ship before committing suicide on the New Year eve ie, December 31, Neha said that she was being tortured badly by her husband, who also used to beat her badly.
The government of India must take a serious note of the case and the guilty must be brought to justice besides asking relevant questions from the parents of the unfortunate girl as they also broke rule of law by giving dowry. Till we don’t start punishing the parents of girls too, this deep rooted disease which has made minds sick would not go from this country.

The basic problem with conscientious advocates of morality in India is that they want laws and the government organs to tackle social problems. Already, the country has more laws than a anyone could learn of in a whole lifetime. These laws only let crooked lawmakers (MLAs and MPs), greedy lawyers and corrupt judiciary to harass the public and enrich themselves. Foolish laws on dowry, womens' harassment and suicide have ruined many families - including that of cops and judges - already. What India needs is for the organs of the State to mind their business (in which India is an utter failure) and let social/religious leadership to tackle moral problems.
