Leaders eliminated: Terrorists on the run in Jammu
The policy of rendering the tanzeems leaderless by hot pursuit, presently being followed by the security forces is being rewarded richly with the annihilation of top leaders of major terrorist outfits operating in the state since January.
THE POLICY  of rendering the militant tanzeems leaderless by hot pursuit, presently being followed by the security forces is being rewarded richly with the annihilation of top leaders of major terrorist outfits operating in the state since January. This has pushed  the residual  cadres to be on the run in Jammu region.

The forces have delivered deadly blows to dreaded terrorist organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami (HUJI), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) by annihilating their ten top commanders out of 16 ultras killed this year so far.

Under joint and well coordinated operations launched with precision on actionable intelligence in different districts of Jammu region, four terrorists were eliminated in January while twelve ultras have been gunned down in February.

One active woman terrorist Hafiza Bano alias Bubbly associated with HUJI outfit was also apprehended during a swift and surgical operation on February 4 wherein her husband, the Divisional Commander of outfit was killed along with another Battalion commander.

Among the major successes was the elimination of Jaish Divisional Commander Abu Dawood, District Commander Tipu Parbat Ali in Poonch, HUJI District Commander Farooq Ahmed alias Dawood and Tehsil Commander Nazir Ahmed alias Abu Furkan in Kishtwar.

With their killing the entire top leadership of both JeM and HUJI in Jammu division stands wiped out.. Jaish Divisional Commander Abu Dawood, who managed to escape the dragnet of the security forces from the Bhatidhar forest siege of January 2009, was killed in Chunga in Poonch on January 16

The forces achieved another major success when HUJI district commander in Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed alias Dawood and tehsil commander Nazir Ahmed alias Abu Furkan were trapped and gunned down in another precision encounter on February 4. While Dawood’s wife Hafiza Bano, who too was an active terrorist, was involved in many terror acts in the past, was apprehended.

On the whole, 3 HUJI ultras and 2 Jaish ultras have been gunned down since January. The LeT suffered a big blow when its District Commander Nisar Ahmed alias Abu Maaz, a local ultra was gunned down in a fierce encounter in Doda on February 3.

In fact the elimination of Nisar along with another ultra Nadeem from the same outfit followed by the killing of HUJI top commanders Dawood and Abu Furkan shattered LeT to the extent that it was forced to suspend its operations north of Chenab. The posters pasted on the mosque wall in Kishtwar bearing seal of Saifullah, a self-styled District Commander of “Mujahidin Lashkar-e-Taiba J&K” on February 5, were the stark reflection of the sense of disquiet and defeat following the annihilation of their top commanders.

Yet this year also HM suffered the maximum damage by losing its 8 ultras including 5 top commanders to the forces

The most heartening aspect is that all these successes have been achieved without any collateral damage or major losses to the forces.

Recent successes have bolstered the forces and demoralized the residual rank and file of these terror outfits leaving them with no option but to fall in line and surrender, security experts’ claim. Their utter frustration was reflected in the LeT announcement of unilateral ceasefire against security forces in Kishtwar recently.

The strength of LeT in Kishtwar, facing shortage of arms, ammunition and funds, has gone down below sub-critical levels with low motivational level among its cadres. To prevent its total obliteration it has threatened to target security forces’ informers. After the complete annihilation of JeM and HUJI and LeT’s unilateral ceasefire, presently HM ultras are in the line of fire of forces. Its cadre, which now lies scattered and broken after the killing of their 8 ultras including 5 top commanders since January, is running helter-skelter to escape the men in olive. In the year 2009, a total of 82 terrorists, including 24 top commander were eliminated
