Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim religious holiday is being celebrated today with lots of energy. This auspicious festival marks the end of the holy month Ramadan, is celebrated upon the sighting of moon. In Kerala, it was celebrated on August 8.
The festival celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan by Muslims. The day of Eid al-Fitr, therefore, falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal, when Muslims around the world show a common goal of unity and brotherhood.
On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Vice President M. Hamid Ansari, in his message stated, “I extend my greetings and best wishes to all our citizens on the joyous occasion of Eid-al-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan. The festival celebrated with gaiety and piety all across the country reinforces the timeless message of universal brotherhood, love and compassion. May this auspicious day unite the country and bless us with peace, progress and prosperity.”
Greeting the nation on the joyous occasion of Eid-al-Fitr, in his message, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that the festival was a celebration of the spirit of sharing and brotherhood. "May this festival bring peace, prosperity and happiness," added the Prime Minister.
