Learn to draw simple Pongal kolam to make a fresh auspicious beginning
Kolam is a form of drawing that is drawn by using rice flour or chalk powder in morning at the threshold of the houses by women in south India. On the occasion of Pongal, the kolam depicting the sun, boiling pots and sugar canes is often made to celebrate the harvest festival.

It the four-day Pongal celebration time now, we must learn to the simple kolam design. To draw it, proceed in the following steps.

1.       Draw the sun with four big and four small rays.

2.       Draw four mutually perpendicular lines around the sun.

3.       Draw on the upper end of the lines, four small curved lines and two straight lines to represent the sugar canes.

4.       Draw a pot in each segment of the drawing.

First, practice the design on the paper and then make the kolam on the floor with the rice or chalk powder.

The special kolam is made to mark the auspicious beginning of the festival of Pongal and make a fresh pious beginning of life.
